Residents from Ashford and the surrounding towns will soon benefit from a range of employment, education and training support services provided by the charity CXK.

Following a planning application in November the charity - who provide a broad range of support services for young people and families - have been granted permission by Ashford Borough Council to convert Ashford's former Magistrates' Court on Tufton Street into their new charity base.

The building, which is currently being refurbished by local company RAP Interiors, will offer a state of the art information and guidance 'one stop shop' for the public. Alongside this there will be open access to full range of CXK's support services, including careers guidance from expert advisors, accredited training courses, leadership and development courses for young people, parenting programmes and youth services. On the first floor training rooms and serviced offices are available to let on a flexible or permanent basis.

Demonstrating their commitment to the potential of young people CXK required the contractors RAP Interiors to appoint an unemployed young person as part of the project. Ashford resident Tom Lord, 17, was previously working as a voluntary labourer and is now employed by RAP to support the site manager where he is gaining valuable experience and skills to help him secure future employment.

With high levels of unemployment of young people in Kent between the age group 16-18 it is increasingly important to offer education or training. Independent careers guidance is a fundamental requirement to help support young people in meeting their aspirations. This will continue to be the core focus of work for CXK.

If employers with jobs and practical work experience opportunities would like to contact CXK please email info@cxk.org or call 01233-645852 - the charity will be happy to introduce them to young people currently seeking work experience and jobs.
