Aldington will be significantly affected
Chris Took, Ashford Liberal Democrat's parliamentary spokesman, has given his full backing to the aims and objectives of the Lorry Park Alliance.
The Lorry Park Alliance was formed to protest against Kent County Councils proposal for a 3,000 capacity lorry park to be located alongside the M20 between junctions 10 and 11. Kent County Council have labelled the site as the 'most appropriate' of all those considered.
"Working in Aldington, which will be affected significantly by the proposed lorry park, I was certainly aware of and sympathetic to the group. I followed the Alliance's activities through the press and now, having met with some of their members, I'm pleased to be giving my full backing and support."
Chris has started a petition on the Downing Street website as well as registering the website www.lorryparkalliance.co.uk for the Alliance's use.
"The petition on the Downing Street website, in essence, asks for pressure to be put on Kent County Council to release information on the different sites that they considered for this lorry park."
"I do not believe that there is a single person living in the villages of Aldington, Smeeth, Sellindge, Mersham, Brabourne and elsewhere who would agree that the proposed site is the 'most appropriate.' We want to know what other sites were considered, why they were rejected and why the proposed site was seen as a preferred choice."
There will be updates on the new Alliance website and the petition to Downing Street at regular intervals through www.ashfordlibdems.org.uk
