Highways Agency Sees The Light For Junction 10

May 17, 2007 6:00 PM

George KoowareeAt today's Full County Council Meeting, George Koowaree, Liberal Democrat Member for Ashford East asked the Cabinet Member for Highways to support the users of Junction 10 off the M20 who have signed a petition stating 'rather than returning the roundabout to how it was, the Highways Agency should use this opportunity to review its use of traffic lights - either by changing the sequencing or looking at whether they are needed at all?'

The Cabinet Member, Councillor K Ferrin, responded by saying he has great sympathy with the users and that the Highways Agency has agreed to undertake a review of the necessity for lights at that junction.

However, the Agency has emphasized that lights may continue be needed for pedestrians to cross safely, and at the exit slip roads. It may be possible to operate these lights at peak times only.

George said: "I am pleased that the Highways Agency is pursuing this proposal and I look forward to an outcome which will satisfy local people's concerns."
