Lib Dems Head for Brighton Conference in Upbeat Mood

Brighton Conference Centre

Lib Dem policy will be shaped at Brighton next week

Liberal Democrats from across Britain are heading for Brighton this weekend to put in place the policy framework that will take the party through the rest of this Parliament.

The mood is expected to be upbeat following the recent demolition of the Tories' 13,000 majority in Bromley - one of their safest seats cut to a majority of just 641 - following on the heels of a thumping win for Willie Rennie in Dunfermline, as well as a strong of recent council by-election successes.

Among the highlights in a packed week of debates, conference representatives will debate the most radical plans to tax pollution and help people on low and middle incomes ever proposed by a major party, as well as new policy papers on children and families, local government and international law. The policy framework document 'Trust in People: Make Britain Free, Fair and Green', which will be debated on Wednesday, sets out how the party will tackle poverty and social injustice in Britain.

People are tired of politics being dominated by personality and spin. They want political parties to concentrate on the real issues that can make their life better. They want more than slick presentation - they want to know what parties would actually do with power.

At this conference the Liberal Democrats will demonstrate the politics of substance that the British people want and deserve.
